<24 hours

<24 hours til my 21st birthday!!! yay!!! I never thought I'd be 21...

It alway seemed like a long way off. It's starting to sink in tho... the stream of cards from grandparents and aunts and uncles has begun. My family likes to send cards. And, the birthday well wishes have begun on facebook and myspace as well. Today someone asked me if my birthday was tomorrow and then told me I should make sure to have my last illegal drink tonight. Which is probably funny for those who know me cause I've never had an illegal drink in the first place, so even if I did have my last illegal drink it would also be my first. This always promts a lot of questions. So, while i'm still underage I thought I'd try to explain my reasoning for what is hopefully the last time.

Here it is:

1. The main reason is because I wanted to prove something: You don't have to drink to have an awesome time -- ever.

2. I can't afford any fines. Heck, I can hardly afford anything anymore.

3. Who would really want to drink so much that they feel sick? And hangovers?

4. Do I really need a fourth reason?

And then there are the other reasons that people assume are my reasons: it's illegal, my parents would be mad, etc. These are fine reasons, but not mine.

This is not to say that I've never had a drink in my life. I have, but legally, when I was in Spain. One of my good friends there told my something I'll never forget. He was at least 18 (the legal age there), but never really drank anything when we went out to the fiestas. After a while I asked him why he didn't. He said, "I prefer to be 100% me." No more needed to be said. He was the life of the party. I still remember that conversation. Thanks Apon.
